A small balcony herb garden

By Mira Holt

Herbs are the easiest way to start a balcony garden. Thyme, rosemary and oregano like dry soil and full sun; parsley and mint want more water and some shade.

Group them by thirst, not by looks. Two or three wide pots are easier to keep than ten small ones, which dry out fast in wind.

Harvest little and often from the top. Regular cutting keeps the plants bushy.
